DARKNESS DISAPPEARS AT THE TOUCH OF DAWN

Who says India is poor and backward? With selfless contributors, working day and night to uplift the masses spreading the brightness of knowledge and prosperity where there is the darkness of ignorance and poverty, their progressive thoughts and humane feelings have already made their presence felt and India shines with the light of such great Karmayogis.

Hasina Bano, daughter of a poor vegetable vendor, also a polio victim, decided to walk the path less traveled by her family and relatives - she built up a dream of being a banker and help came, as it will for all those who have the will to change, to lay the foundation to fulfill her dream. Shri Mahesh Kewani of State Bank of Indore, who coached more than twenty five candidates for the clerical recruitment test of the Bank specially, inspired Hasina to continue to study despite strong opposition by her parents who thought the handicapped girl was good for nothing.

As on date, Hasina is an employee of State Bank of Indore and gratefully acknowledges the contribution of Mahesh, that had he not insisted and trained her for the test, she would have been seen selling vegetables on the roadside all her life.

Mahesh believes that each one should necessarily teach one, then alone we will be able to repay our debts to all those who have invested in us to make us capable of what we are. Mahesh has been able to help more than ten candidates to secure a job with State Bank of Indore and has more than repaid his ‘debts’.

A village called Malhargarh in district Mandsaur, with about 8000 population and awareness of availability of jobs in a bank, being zero, Shri Suman Sahi of State Bank of Indore, took a conscious decision to coach eligible students for Bank’s recruitment test. He started with a mere three students, which grew to about eighty to one hundred students and devoted his ex-office hours to train them, with no financial compensation. The success rate of his class is a mighty eighty two who are presently holding jobs in Banks. Serving the needy at no charge, Suman has in fact taught them to take charge of their own life by setting an example himself!

Messengers in the bank are meant for carrying papers and registers from one desk to another. To see their potential to work as a clerk handling number of customers efficiently and to train them accordingly was a vision that Shri Manuel Alfred of State Bank of Indore, Kasturba Nagar branch had in him. More than five messengers, handle the desks as clerks as on date and enjoy the status and benefits associated with it. Manuel reaps joy every time he recollects his efforts and has derived meaning from his life.

An aspirant for IIT, but very poor and handicapped, found a great support in Shri Jaiprakash of State Bank of Indore, Jabua Branch, who arranged for his hefty fees, hostel expenses, nearly an amount of Rs.one lac, through Trusts, coaching institutes and from his own pocket. He still recalls with enthusiasm how he managed to arrange for the funds so that the poor boy could be an IITian.
