When Confucious Inspected Girgaon Branch...

EXPERIENCE SHARING FROM SBLC, NUNGAMBAKKAM, CHENNAI - 08.12.2009

In the ‘Citizen SBI’ programme conducted at SBLC, Nungambakkam, Chennai on 8th Dec, 2009 an interesting thing happened while dealing with ‘Citizen Choice’ film (under Module 3.1). In one of the experiences Smt. Padma Sekar (transferred against her will to Girgaon Branch as a Branch Manager) shares as under:

Taking up the challenge of heading a ‘litigation filled’ branch
The branch was being planned to be closed down by the controller in view of the problems
Telling the controller that ‘I have not come here to close down the branch- but to perform’ - making a ‘choice’
Working really hard to rectify all the problems and also increasing business resulting in an A+ rating for the branch in the Inspection & Audit Report.
Deriving tremendous amount of satisfaction and ‘inner fullness’ in the process

As soon as this sharing was over, one of the participants by name Shri. Confucius wanted to say something in that connection. What he subsequently shared with the rest of the class really added tremendous value to the programme. Shri. Confucius was saying that he had inspected that branch at the relevant time and he had seen Smt. Padma Sekar as a very industrious and dynamic leader. The controllers were seriously thinking of closing down the branch and he had recommended against the closure in his report in view of the improvement that had taken place under the leadership of Smt. Padma Sekar. Shri. Confucius also briefly shared his experience of inspecting that branch. All the participants started clapping instantaneously as they could relate to the programme much more closely as one of the participants amongst themselves was a witness to what was being shared in the programme through a film. In fact one other participant immediately added that this kind of sharing by one their colleagues added to the credibility of the whole progamme.
